The Spokane Police Department has announced that one suspect has been arrested on two counts of first-degree murder. According to a social media post from the Spokane Police Department, Major Crimes Unit detectives arrested 25-year-old Brandon L. Kenny on December 16, 2023 in connection to a double shooting on December 8.
On December 8, 2023 just after 11 PM, Spokane Police Department officers responded to the area of East Cleveland Avenue and North Cuba Street in reference to gunshots heard. Upon arrival, patrol officers located two victims with gunshot wounds. The victims were later pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Spokane County Medical Examiner identified the victims as 37-year-old Colton Russell and 23-year-old Kiara Morgan-Weiland. MCU detectives say they pursued multiple leads, interviewed numerous people, and executed search warrants.
Brandon L. Kenny was booked into the Spokane County Jail on two counts of First-Degree Murder. Police say additional charges are possible. Kenny had six felony convictions for crimes including criminal mischief with a deadly weapon, burglary, and theft.
