The South Bend Police Department is currently investigating a shooting near the city’s downtown area. SBPD reports that its officers responded to the 400 block of South Michigan Street for a reported shooting around 4:15 p.m. on September 4, 2024.

At the scene, responding officers found a female victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to an area hospital where she is reportedly in critical condition. SBPD says the shooting occurred just outside the United States Bankruptcy Court Building, but there is no evidence to suggest the shooting was related to the court.

All involved parties have been accounted for, according to authorities.
