South Bend Police detain two following shooting that injured one

The South Bend Police Department has detained two people in connection to a shooting on the bypass. SBPD reports that its Violent Crimes Unit is investigating a shooting on the bypass that sent one person to an area hospital.

Around 9 p.m. on June 16, 2024, SBPD officers responded to St. Joseph Valley Parkway and Brick Road for a report of shots fired on the bypass. During the investigation, officers learned that a shooting victim was in a vehicle on the U.S. 20 bypass east of Ironwood Drive.

The victim was taken to an area hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. SBPD has detained two individuals in connection to this incident. It is believed that the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
