The Redding Police Department has announced the arrest of a suspect DUI driver who crashed into a business early this morning. According to a news release from the Redding Police Department, officers responded to a single-vehicle collision into a building in the 1400 block of Hilltop around 12:49 AM on December 16.
Upon arrival, officers observed a 2009 Toyota Corolla with significant damage. Authorities say it appeared that the vehicle had driven all the way through the business, Vitality Bowls Superfood Café. The business sustained extensive damage.
Witnesses informed police that the vehicle was driving recklessly through the parking lot just before the crash. The driver was identified as 29-year-old Visente Rivera of Redding. Authorities say they determined that Rivera was to be driving under the influence following several field sobriety tests.
The Redding Police Department said he became combative when he realized he was going to jail. He allegedly kicked an officer and yelled obscenities at them. Officers gained control of Rivera who was eventually booked into the Shasta County Jail for using violence to resist arrest and driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
