The Birmingham Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting at a residence in the 700 block of New Hill Court. Office Truman Fitzgerald announced in a video statement that West Precinct officers responded to a person shot call in the 700 block of New Hill Court around 10:15 p.m..
At the scene, officers found an adult female lying unresponsive on an exterior staircase. The victim was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire & Rescue responded to the scene where they pronounced the victim deceased.
Based on the preliminary investigation, the Birmingham Police Department believes an adult male was at the residence causing a disturbance. The adult male suspect began arguing with the victim.
During the argument, the suspect shot the victim before fleeing the scene. The suspect is not in custody at this time.
