The Shelton Police Department has announced an arrest in connection to a sexual assault on the Riverwalk on Canal Street. SPD reports that 21-year-old Jgai Purcell was arrested in connection to the case.
The incident occurred on August 8, 2024 at the Riverwalk. A 47-year-old woman reported that she was walking her dog when she was approached by a man who said he wanted to get to know her.
The woman tried to leave, but the suspect allegedly put his arms around her. While the man was restraining the victim, he allegedly grabbed her breasts. The woman was able to free herself.
The man allegedly grabbed her buttocks as she was fleeing. SPD says the female victim managed to take a photo of the man during the encounter. The photo was provided to authorities and disseminated to the public.
Detectives say they later located Purcell who matched the description of the man in the photo. The woman identified Purcell in a photographic array. Purcell was booked on charges of Sexual Assault 4th Degree and Unlawful Restraint 2nd Degree.
At this time, he is being held on a $50,000 bond.
