The Shelby Township Police Department has arrested a man in connection to a four-vehicle accident that claimed the lives of an 88-year-old mother and her 63-year-old daughter. Police report that officers responded to an injury accident on southbound M-53 near 22 Mile around 12:52 p.m. on June 6, 2024.
At the scene, officers found two severely injured occupants. Shelby Township Police say the initial investigation indicates that the at fault driver, Jose Medina-Hernandez, failed to slow in a construction area causing a four-vehicle accident.
An 88-year-old mother and her 63-year-old daughter were pronounced deceased at the scene. After being checked at an area hospital, Medina-Hernandez was arrested for moving violation causing death.
Police say Medina-Hernandez had no legal status in the country. ICE was contacted for further investigation. On June 7, 2024, Median-Hernandez was arraigned on two counts of Moving Violation Causing Death.
He was given a $250,000 cash bond with a GPS tether but was unable to post bond.
