A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection to a shooting on Sunday. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office reports that Shelby County 911 received a report of a shooting with injuries in the 200 block of Shoal Run Trail around 4:18 p.m. on July 21, 2024.

Once deputies reached the scene, they located an adult male victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the torso. The victim was eventually transported to a Birmingham hospital where he underwent surgery.

At this time, the victim is in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries. After the shooting, deputies detained a suspect not far from the scene of the crime. The shooting is believed to be linked to a domestic incident.

SCSO does not believe there is any danger to the public. The accused has been identified as 22-year-old Casey Deandre Smith of Birmingham, Alabama. Smith is charged with Attempted Murder and Domestic Violence Assault 1st Degree.
