Shasta County Sheriff’s Office arrests man for allegedly stealing and selling county property

Shasta County, California – The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a suspect for embezzlement.

According to a SCSO media release, county employees discovered inoperable, county-owned electronics in storage in October 2024.

Authorities say it was determined that crucial components were missing from the devices. SCSO also says an online sales account actively selling Shasta County property was found.

SCSO’s Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation. Authorities say 39-year-old Matthew Silveira was identified as the person responsible for selling county property.

Authorities confirm that Silveira was a Shasta County employee. A search warrant was carried out at his residence. Authorities say Shasta County property was recovered during the search.

On February 28, 2025, a Felony Arrest Warrant for Embezzlement was issued. On April 3, 2025, detectives located and arrested Silveira.

After being interviewed by detectives, he was booked into the Shasta County Jail with a $25,000 bail.
