The Seattle Police Department said in a media release that it is investigating a shooting at a bus stop near Garfield High School. On March 13, a 17-year-old female student was shot at a bus stop near Garfield High School. Around 2:40 p.m., Seattle Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting at the bus stop near 23rd Avenue and East Jefferson Street.
Foot and vehicle traffic was considerable when several shots were fired from a light-colored SUV toward the bus shelter, according to authorities. Many people ran from the area following the shooting. SPD says it appears that the 17-year-old victim was not the intended target. The victim was shot in the right leg and informed police she did not know the person who fired the shots.
The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center where she is in stable condition. SPD says the suspect is described as a black teen who was wearing a camouflage ski mask at the time. The suspect reportedly fired the gun from a light-colored SUV that was last seen leaving the area westbound on East Jefferson Street.
SPD does not believe the shooting is connected to the homicide that happened near 24th Avenue South and South Main Street.
