The Scranton Police Department is investigating a shooting during a domestic dispute. SPD reports that officers responded to 1612 Pine Street around 10:09 a.m. on June 8, 2024. It was reported that people were heard arguing before two gunshots were heard.
Officers reached the scene where they found a 27-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper extremity. First responders treated the victim before she was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Law enforcement learned that the suspect remained inside following the shooting. SPD officers established a perimeter and made attempts to get the suspect to leave the residence. SWAT and SOG responded to the scene.
SPD says tactical teams were ambushed by gunfire from the attic while searching inside the structure. No officers were wounded. No lethal force was used by law enforcement. Law enforcement used a recorded family member’s plea to try to get the suspect to surrender and used chemical munitions.
Around 5:08 p.m., a tactical robot found the suspect unresponsive in the attic. SPD says the suspect suffered a single gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased.
