The Scottsdale Police Department has fatally shot a suspect who allegedly shot at police during a traffic stop. According to SPD, the incident happened around 5:30 p.m. on March 21, 2024 near the intersection of Scottsdale and Cactus Roads. SPD says officers located a stolen vehicle in Scottsdale and carried out a traffic stop at 5:23 p.m.

The suspect allegedly exited the vehicle and began shooting at officers. In return, both officers fired their duty weapons hitting the suspect who was pronounced deceased at the scene around 5:51 p.m. The suspect has been identified as 52-year-old Laquanza Young.

SPD says a handgun was recovered in the suspect’s possession. No community members or officers were injured.
