Schenectady Police investigating shooting and stabbing on Sunday

The Schenectady Police Department is investigating a shooting and stabbing. The incidents are separate and not connected. Around 1:09 a.m. on August 18, 2024, SPD responded to the 200 block of South Brandywine Avenue for a report of a fight and stabbing.

At the scene, officers found an adult male suffering from a stab wound to the chest. Officers obtained a description of the suspect which was given to nearby officers. The suspect was promptly located and taken into custody.

The victim was transported to Albany Medical Center with serious injuries. The victim has since been stabilized. The suspect has been identified as 27-year-old Marcus Jeffress who is charged with Assault in the First Degree.

Around 7:56 a.m., officers responded to the area of Albany Street and Kelton Avenue for shots fired. At the scene, responding officers found a male victim suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.

SPD says the victim was shot at but not struck. Then, he was physically assaulted by the suspect. The victim was taken to Ellis Hospital for treatment. SPD officers recovered a handgun from the scene.

No one is in custody at this time.
