Santa Rosa Police investigating fatal collision involving USPS employee

The Santa Rosa Police Department reports that it is investigating a fatal collision involving a United States Postal Service employee.

Around 5:05 p.m. on November 18, SRPD says its officers responded to the intersection of Northpoint Parkway and Corrigan Street for a major collision involving a USPS vehicle and a GMC Denali SUV.

Police say the SUV ended up in the front yard of a residence on Corrigan Street and the USPS vehicle was in the middle of Northpoint Parkway near the dead end.

SRPD says multiple 911 calls reported that a man was lying in the roadway and appeared to be deceased. Callers reportedly told police that the man was the driver of the postal vehicle.

According to Santa Rosa Police, the driver of the SUV was conscious and appeared to be having a medical emergency. The driver remained inside the SUV after the collision.

Authorities confirm the man in the roadway was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the SUV was taken to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Authorities believe the driver of the SUV was driving erratically before the collision and struck the postal vehicle and the driver who was standing outside the vehicle at the time.

It is believed that the driver of the SUV suffered a medical emergency that caused him to lose control of the vehicle before the collision. Authorities have identified the deceased victim as 33-year-old Irvin Hernandez.
