Santa Rosa Police investigating deadly shooting following dispute between friends

Santa Rosa, California – The Santa Rosa Police Department says it is investigating a deadly shooting following a dispute between friends. In a statement, police said that SRPD’s Communications Center received a 911 call about a disturbance leading to a stabbing and shooting in the 4300 block of Hoen Avenue around 9:24 p.m. on January 25, 2025.

At the scene, responding officers found an adult male with a stab wound to the leg and an unresponsive adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck.

The stab victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The gunshot victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

SRPD Violent Crimes Investigations Team responded and assumed the investigation. SRPD says detectives learned that the two men involved in an argument were friends.

The argument eventually turned physical. It is alleged that 23-year-old Devin McKenzie produced a handgun and shot the 20-year-old male victim at least one time.

McKenzie suffered a stab wound to his leg during the incident. Detectives say they recovered a knife and a firearm at the scene. McKenzie was treated at the hospital and booked into the Sonoma County Jail on one count of Murder.

McKenzie is currently being held without bail.
