Update – Santa Monica Police have identified the suspect accused of kidnapping a four-year-old earlier today. SMPD identified the suspect as Breanna Taylor Shields who was booked for kidnapping. SMPD says she is eligible for a sentencing enhancement.

Original – The Santa Monica Police Department has located an abducted four-year-old child. SMPD reports that it received a call from a grandmother who said her four-year-old granddaughter had been kidnapped from a restaurant in the 1900 block of Lincoln Boulevard around 12:11 p.m. on July 12.

Officers arrived at the scene within minutes and began gathering video images of the kidnapper and child. Officers flooded the area to search the subject who was described as a heavyset white female in her 30s.

Around 12:37 p.m., the Downtown Services Unit located the suspect and the child in a room at the Holiday Motel at 11th Street and Pico Boulevard. SMPD confirms that the child was unharmed. The suspect was promptly taken into custody.

SMPD believes the suspect had been residing at the Holiday Motel for an extended period.
