The Santa Fe Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection to an attempted sexual assault near Capital High School. SFPD reports that a juvenile female reported she was leaving the school and walking along Paseo Del Sol on August 16, 2024.
The female victim reported that a man allegedly attacked her and attempted to sexually assault her. The victim screamed for help causing the attacker to flee on a bicycle. The victim provided authorities with a detailed description of the suspect.
On August 20, 2024, another juvenile female was assaulted in the same area. An unknown male ran up behind her, grabbed her, and put his hand over her mouth. The victim was thrown to the ground.
When the suspect was told police were on the way, he fled. SFPD says evidence was collected and a description of the suspect was obtained. SFPD’s Special Victims Unit arrested 18-year-old Alvaro Luna Huereca on August 27, 2024. Detectives carried out a search warrant at a residence in connection to the case.
Huereca has been charged with six counts of Criminal Sexual Contact and one count of False Imprisonment.
