The Santa Ann Police Department has announced the arrest of a man in connection to the death of an 82-year-old female. According to a social media post from the Santa Ana Police Department, officers responded to a local hospital to investigate a suspected case of elder abuse. An 82-year-old female victim had been transported to the hospital. It was found that she was unconscious and suffering from wounds consistent with neglect.
Special Crimes Section detectives identified the victim’s son, 50-year-old Richard Towers, as the victim’s primary caregiver. A search warrant was carried out at his residence and evidence was collected. On January 25, 2024, the victim was pronounced deceased. An arrest warrant was issued for Towers.
On February 12, 2024, Towers turned himself in. He has been booked on Murder and Elder and Dependent Abuse.
