Santa Ana Police arrests high school coach in lewd act investigation

A 28-year-old high school coach has been arrested in connection to a lewd act investigation. The Santa Ana Police Department reports that SAPD Communications received a report from a mother who found inappropriate messages between her daughter and her high school track coach.

SAPD says 28-year-old Aaron Raya is the head track and field coach, a football coach, and a substitute teacher at Godinez High School. SAPD claims the investigation indicated that Raya began speaking to the victim through social media during the school year regarding track events.

Upon graduation, Raya began contacting her in a sexual manner and allegedly attempted to meet her. Special Crimes Detectives took over the investigation and found two more minor victims and former students of Godinez High School.

The victims alleged Raya made sexual advances towards them. On July 14, 2024, SAPD officers contacted Raya at his residence and took him into custody. He is being held in the Orange County Jail with $100,000 bail.

Detectives believe there could be more victims. Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective M. Thomas at 714-245-8346 or Crime Stoppers at 1-855-TIP-OCCS.
