The San Mateo Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a sexual assault suspect. A victim contacted SMPD to report a sexual assault on December 26, 2023. The victim informed officers that the assault happened on the 3rd Avenue overpass around 6:30 p.m. as she was walking over Highway 101.

The victim was approached by a male suspect who attempted to talk to her. The suspect sexually assaulted the victim before fleeing west on 3rd Avenue. According to SMPD, the victim said the suspect was possibly a mixed-race male who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.

The suspect spoke English and said his name was Eric. The suspect is designed as an adult male around 25 years old with a light complexion. He is around 5’6” and between 140 to 150 pounds. The suspect had short, dark curly hair, dark brown eyes, a thin dark mustache, and freckles around his nose and under his eyes.
