Robert Lee Wilson charged in shooting that left Sumter man injured

The Sumter Police Department has announced charges in a shooting that happened earlier this morning. According to SPD, a Columbia man has been charged. 47-year-old Robert Lee Wilson is charged with Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime.

Around 4:30 a.m. on March 16, 2024, officers responded to shots heard in the Manning Avenue area when they found a victim inside a Bee Street motorcycle club. Several individuals were inside the club at the time. They saw the victim when he came inside with gunshot wounds.

The 53-year-old victim was transported to an area hospital where he remains in critical condition. SPD says the information gathered in the case led officers to identify Wilson as the shooter. Robert Lee Wilson turned himself in to police on Tuesday.
