Roanoke Rapids woman arrested for assaulting her daughter in public

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department has arrested a mother for allegedly assaulting her daughter in public. Around 2:30 p.m. on March 29, 2024, RRPD received a call regarding a possible fight in progress. At the scene, an RRPD officer found the assault in progress, but the assault had moved to Madison Street which is a dead end.

The officer reportedly saw a female being dragged and assaulted by a female who was later identified as 40-year-old Latasha Malekea Johnson of Roanoke Rapids. RRPD says the victim is Johnson’s adult daughter. At this time, it is not known what led to the assault.

RRPD says the event occurred on a city street with multiple people watching during the middle of the afternoon. Johnson was charged with Simple Assault and booked into the Halifax County Detention Center.
