Redwood City Police arrest East Palo Alto woman for robbery and assault with a deadly weapon

An East Palo Alto woman has been booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility on charges of Robbery, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Burglary, and Committing a Felony While out on Bail.

The Redwood City Police Department reports that officers responded to a robbery and assault that occurred in the parking lot of a shopping center at 250 Walnut Street just after 12 p.m. on June 6, 2024.

The victim, an Uber driver, told police that he had dropped off a passenger at the location. At the scene, the passenger allegedly brandished a knife and demanded the victim’s cell phone.

After the woman got his phone, she demanded money to return it. Following a brief struggle, the suspect cut the victim’s arm before fleeing on foot with the victim’s money. RCPD says an independent witness provided police with a suspect description.

RCPD officers obtained video surveillance footage of the suspect in a nearby business and determined she had stolen merchandise from two nearby businesses before leaving the area. Authorities received a call from a woman at 400 County Center saying she had been involved in a disturbance.

At the scene, officers noticed that the woman matched the description of the robbery suspect. She was detained. RCPD says the victim positively identified the woman as the suspect.

Shante Barden was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility.
