The Redding Police Department has announced an arrest in a recent shooting incident. According to RPD, officers responded to a residence in the 3500 block of Ricardo Avenue after a report of a gunshot victim around 2:20 p.m. on March 16, 2024. At the scene, responding officers found a victim who was deceased. The victim was later identified as 22-year-old Paul David Nelson of Redding.

Detectives say they identified multiple people who were present at the time of the shooting. 19-year-old Ethan Andrew Couch was allegedly one of those individuals. During interviews, detectives say they learned that Couch was handling a firearm in the residence when it discharged and struck Nelson.

Couch and other witnesses fled the scene before officers arrived. Based on the criminal investigation so far, Couch was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail.
