The Raleigh Police Department has announced the arrest of a suspect in the homicide of 27-year-old Christina Johnson. 29-year-old Jamal Johnson has been arrested and charged with Murder and Felony Assault Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury. RPD said the investigation is ongoing.

Around 4 a.m. on January 6, 2024, officers responded to the Checkmate Lounge at 2200 East Millbrook Road in response to reports of a person shot. At the scene, two victims were found inside the club. An adult male victim was transported to the hospital for treatment and remains hospitalized.

One adult male suffered multiple gunshots and passed away.
