Queensland Police have announced the arrest of a 31-year-old man in connection to a double shooting in South Mackay on June 19. It is alleged that a 34-year-old woman was sitting in a vehicle parked outside a Robb Place residence when she was approached by the man who had a gun.
The man allegedly shot the woman who succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Queensland Police say the man and woman were not known to each other despite residing on the same street. Two children were inside the vehicle at the time.
They fled the scene on foot and were not physically harmed. A 66-year-old man allegedly approached the man and was shot as well. The second victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The 31-year-old accused shooter fled the scene in a silver Mitsubishi Triton that was later tracked to a service station on Bruce Highway near Hilton Street. The man was taken into custody without incident.
The man has been charged with Murder and Attempted Murder.
