Pueblo Police Department provides update into the shooting on West US Highway 50

The Pueblo Police Department has provided an update into the shooting in the 700 block of West U.S. Highway 50. On January 7, 2024, officers arrived at the scene and found evidence of shots being fired. They were informed that a vehicle had driven away from the scene.

The Communications Center received a call from a person who said they had been in a car in the area when someone began shooting at them. The caller explained they drove away and were near the intersection of Jerry Murphy Road and Desert Flower Boulevard. The caller told authorities two people in the vehicle had been shot.

Once officers responded, they found an adult male and an adult female who had been shot. The male and female, 26-year-old AaLiyah Chacon, were transported to a local hospital where Chacon succumbed to her injuries. During the investigation, detectives discovered that the suspects were in a silver Kia Rio.

Later the same day, officers observed a silver Kia Rio on the east side of Pueblo. Following an unsuccessful traffic stop, a pursuit was initiated. The Rio drove around several sets of stop sticks and continued into the Canon City area. Other agencies assisted until the vehicle crashed into a fence and the occupants fled on foot. A short time later, 21-year-old Davonte Evans was found deceased.

A second suspect, 19-year-old Jordan Zeigler, was apprehended and booked into the Fremont County Jail on charges of theft and possession of a concealed weapon. PPD said the investigation is ongoing and it is unknown if Evans and Zeigler are suspects in the homicide.
