Portland Police says one man is dead and one is in custody following stabbing at MAX Station

Update – The Portland Police Bureau has identified the victim in the fatal stabbing at the 82nd Avenue Transit Station. The incident happened around 6:04 p.m. on March 29, 2024. Authorities identified 51-year-old Shondel L. Larkin as the suspect in the fatal stabbing. Larkin was arrested and booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Murder in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

On April 3, 2024, PPB identified the victim as 51-year-old Michael Matthew Brady of Portland. The Medical Examiner concluded that Brady had died of homicide by stab wounds to the torso.

Original – The Portland Police Bureau has launched a homicide investigation following a stabbing. According to a PPB media release, East Precinct officers responded to a stabbing at the 82nd Avenue Transit Station around 6:04 p.m. on March 29, 2024. Once officers reached the scene, they located an adult male deceased on the 82nd Avenue Transit Station platform.

PPB says officers took an adult male into custody. Homicide Detail Detectives and Criminalists from the Forensic Evidence Division are on the scene interviewing witnesses and processing evidence. PPB expects the 82nd Avenue Transit Station to be closed for several hours.

The initial investigation indicates that the stabbing occurred on an eastbound MAX train. No additional details are available at this time.
