The Portland Police Bureau and Oregon State Police have arrested a suspect in connection to an early morning stabbing. According to a PPB media release, Central Precinct and Entertainment Detail officers responded to a possible stabbing on the sidewalk at Northwest 6th Avenue and Northwest Glisan Street around 2:08 a.m. on March 17, 2024.
At the scene, responding officers located an adult male victim and began lifesaving efforts. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was stabilized. PPB confirms the victim is expected to survive. Authorities say the preliminary investigation indicates that the stabbing occurred during a scuffle between two groups.
A firearm was found at the scene but there is no evidence that it was discharged during the fight. A PPB officer spotted the suspect near Southwest Broadway and Southwest Yamhill Street at 2:28 a.m. but the suspect ran. Oregon State Troopers were in the area and apprehended the suspect following a short chase.
21-year-old Yimer J. Funez-Cruz was booked on charges of Assault in the First Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Menacing.
