The Pomona Police Department has announced the arrest of 23-year-old Melini Fuentes following a fatal collision. Around 6:21 p.m. on August 18, 2023, PPD officers responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of White Avenue and Berkley Avenue.

Two victims in the victim vehicle were taken to an area hospital in critical condition. One victim succumbed to her injuries. Officers spoke to the suspect driver who was suspected of driving under the influence and drugs.

PPD says it was determined that the suspect was under the influence of alcohol and cannabis. 23-year-old Melini Fuentes was allegedly driving at a speed exceeding 100 MPH while under the influence of alcohol and drugs just before the collision.

On August 7, 2024, Fuentes was charged with Driving a Vehicle while Under the Influence Causing Bodily Injury, Gross Vehicular Manslaughter, and Vehicular Manslaughter while Intoxicated with Gross Negligence.
