Boulder Police Department was notified of an adult female threatening people with a gun outside the North Boulder Recreation Center on December 17, 2023, at about 4:10 p.m. About two minutes later, officers arrived at the scene and made contact with the subject at 4:14 p.m. The subject walked away and refused to heed the officers’ commands.
About 15 minutes later, officers utilized “less lethal tactics” in an attempt to de-escalate the situation which turned out to be futile. The subject showed officers her hands before removing her gun from her purse. At 4:26 p.m. two officers discharged their weapons.
Officers removed a gun from the subject’s hand. The gun was identified as a replica Beretta pistol.
Life-saving measures administered at the scene were ineffective. The woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
