Plano Police provide upate on home invasion murder and officer-involved shooting

The Plano Police Department has provided an update on yesterday’s homicide and officer-involved shooting. Authorities say that deputies with the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office and PPD officers responded to a report of a possible home invasion with shots fired in the 3800 block of Pratt Ct around 6:45 p.m.

At the scene, responding officers located a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver refused. Authorities were involved in a pursuit of the suspect vehicle.

Information was obtained that an individual with multiple gunshot wounds was found at the address on Pratt Ct. The victim has been identified as 70-year-old Russell Novak who passed away. The vehicle pursuit ended near the intersection of Route 34 and Eola Road in Aurora.

It is alleged that the subject exited the vehicle armed with a firearm and pointed it at a deputy. The deputy and a Plano Police Department officer discharged their firearms. The subject was pronounced deceased at Rush Copley Hospital in Aurora.

No officers were injured. No other details are available at this time.
