The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office reports that it is investigating a shooting that occurred on Wednesday night. Around 8:37 p.m. on September 4, deputies responded to 5352 79th Street North after several 911 callers reported hearing gunshots.
At the scene, deputies found a black Chevrolet pickup truck partially parked on the property and in the roadway. 39-year-old Matthew Weisner was found in the driver’s seat suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
The victim was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Detectives say that Weisner is in a relationship with 38-year-old Amber Souza. They were reportedly at Souza’s residence in Pinellas Park and had been consuming alcohol.
At some point, they allegedly began arguing and Weisner began contacting Souza’s previous boyfriend out of jealousy. Weisner allegedly contacted 36-year-old Michael McMann, began yelling at him, and threatened him with physical harm with a firearm.
Weisner said he was driving to Michael’s home. PCSO says Michael was not at home at the time of the calls. When he returned home, the shooting had already occurred. Michael’s brother, 30-year-old Austin McMann, reportedly saw the black Chevrolet pickup outside.
Austin went outside armed with a firearm and demanded Weisner leave the property. PCSO claims Weisner was yelling and reached into the center console of his truck. Austin reportedly heard a sound consistent with the racking of a gun.
Detectives say Austin told them that he was in fear for his life so he fired an unknown number of shots toward Weisner before returning inside to call 911. Detectives confirm Austin McMann has been cooperative and is claiming self-defense in the shooting. Weisner is currently on life support.
