The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating a fatal shooting near the Vapor Store at 119th Street South and Pacific Avenue. Around 6:39 p.m. on July 31, 2024, PCSD deputies responded to the scene after a report of several shots heard in the area and one man down in the street.

At the scene, deputies found one man deceased as well as a firearm, live ammunition, and multiple shell casings in the roadway. Deputies shut down the roadway to preserve the scene for investigators.

PCSD reports that a crowd of people started to arrive. A deputy was reportedly assaulted by a family member trying to enter the scene. The man was arrested and booked into the Pierce County Jail for assault in the 3rd degree.

The deputy was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries. The investigation is ongoing. No one is in custody at this time.
