Pierce County Sheriff’s Department investigating after suspicious person chased children at the Bethel School District

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after a suspicious person chased children in the Bethel School District on multiple occasions. Around 8:12 a.m. on January 16, 2024, a Liberty Middle School student reported that a subject dressed in all black had chased him last Friday morning. The incident is similar to another reported by a female student on January 11 at Bethel High School.

The Bethel School District sent a message to parents leading to a student from Spanaway Middle School telling his parents that someone chased him on January 10. PCSD advises all students and parents to be aware of these incidents and to watch their surroundings. In one case, the suspect was described as 5’10” with a slim build.

In another, he is believed to be between 6’ and 6’11 with a bulky build. The suspect was wearing dark clothing in all incidents. PCSD said the suspect has not said anything or made physical contact with any of the children. At this time, it is not known if the incidents are related or the same suspect.
