Phoenix Police say USPS Postal box arson not linked to the election

The Phoenix Police Department reports that the arson of a free-standing mailbox at a US Postal Office was not related to the upcoming election. The Fire Department’s Arson Investigation Taskforce has arrested a suspect in connection to the arson.

Around 1 a.m. on October 24, 2024, PPD was notified by the Phoenix Fire Department after they responded to a fire of a mailbox at the US Postal Office in the area of 3900 North 7th Avenue.

Investigators say they identified the suspect as 35-year-old Dieter Bradford Klofkorn. He was arrested on an unrelated arrest warrant, according to PPD. Authorities allege that Klofkorn admitted to the arson.

Police say Klofkorn said he did it because he wanted to be arrested and that his actions were not politically motivated or related to the upcoming election. Klofkorn was booked on a felony count of Arson of Property.
