Petaluma Police Department arrests man for annoying child and violation of probation

Petaluma, California – The Petaluma Police Department has announced the arrest of a suspect for allegedly annoying a child.

In a social media post, PPD said that it received a report of suspicious circumstances regarding two juvenile victims on April 10, 2025.

Police say the victims, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old, reported that they were sitting in Walnut Park when an adult male approached them and asked if they wanted to have sex.

PPD says the juveniles immediately left the area and reported the incident to the Police Department. Officers responded to the scene and contacted the subject.

64-year-old Robert Hofmann was detained and identified by the victims, according to police. Authorities say Hofmann was on probation out of Sonoma County.

He was arrested and charged with Violation of Probation and Annoying a Child Under the Age of 18. Hofmann is being held at the Sonoma County Jail.
