Palo Alto Police investigating robbery of residence occupied by couple in their 80s

The Palo Alto Police Department is investigating a burglary of an occupied home that happened last night. According to the Palo Alto Police Department, the dispatch center received a report of a burglary around 5:41 a.m. on April 10, 2024. The burglary had occurred the night before at a home in the 900 block of Ilima Way.

PAPD says the investigation indicated that a couple in their 80s had been in the bedroom at the time. After the male victim fell asleep, the female victim heard what she thought were footsteps in the kitchen. She went to look but did not see anyone. The female checked the front door and garage door to ensure they were locked before returning to bed.

The female heard a car drive away at a high rate of speed. She went to sleep. Around 5:30 a.m., the husband woke up and learned that the rear glass patio door had been smashed and the side yard gate was open. He called the police. PAPD says officers believe the suspect or suspects did not believe anyone was home. They likely fled without taking anything once they realized the home was occupied.
