Off-duty Texas City Police Department shoots shoplifter at Buc-ee’s

The Texas City Police Department says an off-duty police officer shot a shoplifting suspect. TCPD reports that a Texas City Police officer was working security at Buc-ee’s at 6201 Gulf Freeway while off-duty on August 9, 2024.

TCPD says a physical altercation occurred between the off-duty officer and the suspect when the officer attempted to detain the man. The suspect, Conner Williams, allegedly resisted the officer.

The off-duty officer attempted to use less lethal weapon but they were unsuccessful. Instead, the off-duty officer used his service weapon and one round was fired. Williams suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

He was released from the hospital on August 14, 2024. Williams was booked into the Galveston County Jail on charges of Attempt to Take Weapon from an Officer and Resist Arrest Search or Transport.
