The Oakland Police Department has arrested two suspects in connection to a homicide on August 17, 2024. OPD reports that two people were arrested in a homicide that occurred in the 1600 block of 83rd Avenue.

The individuals were taken into custody on Monday. The case will be handed to the Alameda county District Attorney’s Office. OPD responded to a shooting around 9 a.m. on August 17, 2024.

Officers initially responded to a Shot Spotter activation in the area before the OPD Communications Division was informed of a shooting in the area. At the scene, officers located four victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

Two victims succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Two other victims were taken to area hospitals where they remain in critical condition. Officers learned that several people were involved in a verbal altercation.

The conflict escalated until one person produced a firearm and fired multiple times. The armed individual fled the scene in a vehicle.
