The Newport News Police Department has provided an update on the domestic situation that occurred in the 100 block of Jenness Lane. Around 3:44 a.m. on December 31, 2023, officers responded to the aforementioned location for a domestic situation. At the scene, police determined that an adult male was possibly armed inside the residence with several family members.

The situation escalated into a tactical situation with the Tactical Operations Unit and negotiators responding. Following successful negotiations, the suspect surrendered around 6:32 a.m. and was taken into custody. The Newport News Police Department has identified the suspect as Tytrell Hardy.

Hardy was booked on charges of abduction, assault on a family member, and custody/visitation violation.
