A man has been shot by the New York Police Department. NYPD reports that its officers responded to a 911 call in the vicinity of 2385 3 Avenue around 10:17 p.m. on July 17, 2024.

At the scene, NYPD officers encountered a 24-year-old male suspect holding a large machete. NYPD says officers gave commands to drop the weapon, but the suspect refused. When the suspect lunged at officers, the officers opened fire hitting the suspect in the left arm.

The male suspect was transported to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition. NYPD confirms that a machete was recovered at the scene. No other details are available at this time.
