New Mexico State Police searching for Alex Gutierrez and another man in shooting

The New Mexico State Police are currently searching for two suspects in connection to a shooting on Saturday. Around 12:20 p.m. on September 21, 2024, NMSP’s Investigations Bureau was requested to investigate a shooting at 621 West High Street in Tucumcari.

NMSP says its agents learned that 24-year-old Alex Gutierrez and another man went to the address and knocked on the door. The male and female occupants were acquainted with Gutierrez and opened the door.

Gutierrez allegedly demanded his backpack that was inside the residence. The female victim threw the backpack towards him. After retrieving the backpack, Gutierrez reportedly got into an argument with the male victim and shot him twice in the abdomen.

The male victim was taken to an area hospital where he remains in stable condition. NMSP says Gutierrez and the other man fled the scene on foot. They stopped a white Nissan at gunpoint and forced the driver to take them to Oak Street where they fled.

Gutierrez has been charged with Attempted Murder in the First Degree, Kidnapping, and three counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The suspects are still at large. Anyone with information is asked to contact NMSP at 575-382-2500 option 1.
