According to a social media post from the New Hampshire State Police, authorities were on patrol conducting speed enforcement in Sullivan on Route 9 around 9:12 PM on November 23, 2023. Trooper Couillard observed a motor vehicle traveling westbound at a high rate of speed. The trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused leading to a pursuit. Police say the vehicle reached speeds of nearly 90 MPH and managed to get away.
However, the trooper located the vehicle on Route 9 with heavy damage after striking a utility pole. Trooper Couillard observed two subjects fleeing the area on foot in the direction of a nearby river and into a heavily wooded area, according to the New Hampshire State Police.
A search began to try to locate the occupants of the vehicle. During the search, the passenger of the crashed vehicle emerged from the woods with minor injuries. The passenger was transported to Cheshire Medical Center for treatment. Around 3:30 AM, a trooper at the scene found a male subject walking down Route 9 in the area of Granite Gorge.
After the trooper identified the individual as the operator of the vehicle, the subject was taken into custody and was identified as 31-year-old Childlove Gelin of Springfield MA. Police say Gelin had two full extradition warrants out of New York City and Springfield. After being discharged from the hospital, Gelin was booked into the Cheshire County House of Corrections.
