Nashville teen dead following shooting which mother reported was accidental

A teen in Nashville, Tennessee is dead following a shooting inside a residence on Edgehill Avenue. The girl’s mother reports that the shooting was accidental, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. The deceased has been identified as 13-year-old Dearria Radley.

In a media release, Midtown Hills Precinct officers responded to an address on Edgehill Avenue around 9:58 p.m. and provided aid to a 13-year-old girl who had been shot. Radley was transported to Vanderbilt’s Pediatric Emergency Room where she passed away due to a single gunshot wound. MNPD says Dearria’s mother told detectives that her unholstered .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol was in her purse with other items.

The mother reportedly told detectives that the gun went off as she was attempting to retrieve her keys from her purse. At this time, no charges have been filed. The investigation being carried out by the police department’s Youth Services Division is ongoing.
