Nashville Police arrests three teens with two stolen vehicles and 19 key fobs

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department has announced the seizure of six guns as well as the recovery of two high-end stolen vehicles after three teens were arrested. MNPD said the case started at 3 p.m. on Wednesday when the owner of a $70,000 Mercedes SUV reported the vehicle stolen as she walked her dogs in Centennial Park. The owner left the keys inside the vehicle.

Vehicle Crimes detectives used information from the vehicle to track its location. A helicopter was deployed to monitor the movements of the vehicle. Police quickly realized that the stolen Mercedes was moving in tandem with an Infinity sedan. Detectives later determined that the Infiniti sedan had been stolen from Normandy Circle on December 23. The thieves reportedly replaced the original license plate.

The helicopter followed both vehicles to an apartment complex in the 2500 block of Murfreesboro Pike where the Mercedes parked before the occupants got into the Infiniti. When a Hermitage Precinct officer attempted to stop the Infiniti, the driver failed to comply. No pursuit was initiated, but the helicopter continued to track the vehicle which traveled around the city at high speeds.

A spike strip was deployed on Nolensville Pike at the Nashville Zoo. The car continued to an apartment complex in the 4600 block of Nolensville Pike with deflating tires. Five occupants bailed from the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers managed to apprehend three of the occupants, including 19-year-old Thierry Bwenge, a 15-year-old, and a 16-year-old.

Six guns were seized. One was carried by the 15-year-old. Two others were discarded in the bushes while the teens fled. Three guns were found in a bag that had been discarded. Detectives also found 19 key fobs, a key fob programmer, cash, and other items. Bwenge has been charged with auto theft, gun theft, two counts of contributing to the delinquency of minors, and evading arrest.

The 15-year-old and the 16-year-old are charged in Juvenile Court with unlawful gun possession, joyriding, evading arrest, and possession of burglary tools. In February, the 16-year-old was arrested in a stolen vehicle.
