In a press release, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office reported that 24-year-old Gage Dubuc was arrested by the Myrtle Creek Police Department following an investigation into suspected child abuse by SCSO’s Major Crimes Unit.
According to authorities, the Major Crimes Unit was contacted about an infant who was transported to the Mercy Medical Center in Redding with difficulty breathing on December 26, 2024.
Medical personnel determined that the child had suffered multiple injuries, including a fractured tibia, intracranial bleeding, and fractured ribs.
Due to the severity of the injuries and the potential for child abuse, authorities say the child was transported to UC Davis Medical Center. UC Davis doctors confirmed new brain bleeds as well as multiple rib fractures in various stages of healing.
Authorities say both tibias were fractured in a way that would require forceful twisting. Medical experts determined that the injuries were consistent with ongoing, non-accidental trauma and child abuse.
SCSO says Dubuc was the child’s biological father and one of the primary caregivers. On April 15, a warrant was issued for Child Abuse with Great Bodily Injury.
Dubuc is currently being held in the Douglas County Jail with a $100,000 bail.
