Murfreesboro Police investigating pursuit of stolen vehicle and handgun being pointed at officers

The Murfreesboro Police Department is investigating after three suspects allegedly pointed handguns at officers and led them on a pursuit onto Interstate 24. MPD said in a media release that the pursuit was terminated after contact was made between a Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office unit and the stolen vehicle on the Medical Center Parkway at the on-ramp at Exit 76.

No one was injured. Two men and a woman were detained. MPD said charges are pending. Possible charges include aggravated assault on a police officer and theft over $10,000 for a stolen car. Officers responded to the area of East Lytle Street after reports of the occupants of a black Altima displaying handguns. An automatic license plate reader camera informed officers that the vehicle was stolen earlier in the day.

Officers began following the car. After attempting to stop it, the driver refused and traveled onto Interstate 24. The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be investigating the crash. MPD is investigating the stolen vehicle and pursuit.
