Mount Vernon Police investigating deaths of man and woman on South 1st Street

Update – Mount Vernon Police has provided an update in last Friday’s death investigation. MVPD says detectives believe this case to be a murder-suicide. Authorities confirmed the female victim was a member of the Skagit Behavioral Health family.

The male was known to the victim. Authorities say the firearm belonged to the man and was found at the scene. The names of those involved are not being released at this time.

Original – The Mount Vernon Police Department says it is investigating the deaths of a 24-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman. MVPD reports that it was dispatched to a report of an overdue person around 10:02 p.m. on October 25, 2024.

Police say information provided by friends and family was that a 24-year-old man went to an appointment earlier in the 400 block of South 1st Street and had not returned. Authorities say the male’s vehicle was found at that location.

MVPD says additional people were on the scene reporting that a 61-year-old female had not returned from her appointment either. Police say officers checked the building and found the man and woman deceased inside.

MVPD reports that the subjects had suffered a gunshot wound that contributed to their deaths. Authorities do not believe any suspects are at large.
