The Baton Rouge Police Department has arrested a 22-year-old mother after her son shot himself with an illegally modified handgun. According to BRPD, Homicide Detectives arrested 22-year-old Arieana Scott earlier this evening in connection to a shooting that occurred at 2212 69th Avenue around 9:30 a.m. this morning.

Scott’s 4-year-old son allegedly gained access to an illegally modified handgun and used it to shoot himself. The victim suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. Arieana Scott was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parison Prison.

She is charged with Improper Supervision of a Minor by a Parent, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Convicted of Certain Felonies, Possession with the Intent to Distribute Schedule 1 Drugs, Possession of a Machine Gun, and more.
